DINNER ROLLS

While dinner rolls are best known for Holiday tables, I love them for brunch and other parties too. Especially when they’re super fluffy like these! You’ll even find yourself using them as slider buns for Tailgating, and more!

There are so many things I love about the dough, but for now here’s what I love about these dinner rolls:

  • Light as air
  • Fluffy insides without a load of butter
  • No greasy feel when you eat them
  • A slight sweetness in the taste
  • Taste just as fresh the next day
  • Can be flavored with endless toppings such as cheeses, herbs or garlic.

HOMEMADE DINNER ROLLS

Let’s get in the baking zone and make some homemade dinner rolls!

Really, I can’t count how many baking books I have read, how many doughs and loaves of bread I had to make to finally get to this dinner roll recipe!

One thing I have to share is that SOME recipes are truly forgiving and fool proof. So recipes like that are certainly a great starting point for baking beginners.

If you’re not a beginner baker, you’ll know that forgiving recipes are the ones you rely on over and over again. Especially when they’re versatile like this dinner roll recipe.

Seriously, the dough for these homemade dinner dolls makes best soft burger buns , hot dog rolls, soft sandwich bun, the BEST monkey bread (sweet or savory), best garlic knots, soft breadsticks, cheese sticks – you name it! And of course the BEST homemade dinner rolls.

Ingredients

  • 1cuplukewarm water( not too cold or hot, more like your body temperature)
  • 2teaspoonsinstant or dry yeast
  • 1 tbsHoney
  • 3tablespoonssugar
  • 1egg
  • 2tablespoonsbutter soft
  • 2 1/2cupsall-purpose flour( may be 1/4 cup more or less depending on the type of flour and the level of humidity/dryness in your area)
  • 1 1/2teaspoonkosher salt

Glaze and toppings:

  • 3tablespoonsmelted unsalted butter
  • 2tablespoonssesame seeds
  • 4tablespoonsminced herbs

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer, measure the water, honey and add the sugar and yeast to it. Mix them up and wait for 2-3 minutes until the yeast starts to activate: the mixture will turn cloudy and may foam on the top. After that, add in the egg and butter and mix it well.

  2. Pour the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and begin kneading the dough in a mixer or by hand, for just a few minutes ( 4-6 minutes) until smooth but just a little sticky when you press your finger deep into the dough. Add a little extra flour if you feel the need to, but hesitate to add too much. It might feel challenging but it needs to be worked fast (if by hand) until it doesn’t stick to the surface anymore.

  3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm, dry place ( like inside your oven while it is shut off). It may take 1-2 hours depending on how warm your home is that day. You will see it double in size and that’s how it’s ready.

  4. Remove the dough from the oven and preheat it to 350 degrees.

  5. In the meantime shape your dough to your desired size and thickness, and cover it back with plastic wrap for another 30 minutes while the oven is preheating.

  6. Brush the tops of the rolls with the butter mixture.

  7. Bake in the oven on a middle rack for 30 minutes (depending on the size of your rolls) until nice and golden. Once the rolls are ready, brush them with extra butter mixture.
