What is sangria and where is it from?

Sangria is an alcoholic beverage made from red wine, fruit, and other additions such as orange juice. Its early versions were popular in Spain and Greece. Sangria is usually served at parties as a low-cost alcoholic beverage that everyone likes. It requires just a few ingredients and is always popular.

Virgin sangria recipe

Even though sangria is originally an alcoholic beverage, I've made a non-alcoholic version of it that can be served to everyone. Since this drink is alcohol-free, it's safe for all your guests to enjoy.

Here are a few reasons why you'll love this recipe:

  • Highly customizable: You can add fruits that you like to the drink or change the ratio of the ingredients and still end up with a delicious and fruity non-alcoholic drink.
  • Beautiful drink: Not only this virgin sangria is delicious, it's also visually appetizing.
  • Perfect for everyone: Since there is no alcohol in this sangria punch, you can serve it to everyone at your gathering or party.

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Orange juice: You can use packaged or freshly squeezed orange juice.
  • Cranberry pomegranate juice: It's also possible to use just pomegranate or cranberry juice.
  • Lemon juice: You don't need much, just a bit to brighten up the flavor.
  • Apple juice: Just enough to balance the flavors. Apple cider could work as well.
  • Sparkling water: Make sure it's not flavored.
  • Fruit: A combination of apples, oranges and blackberries would work perfectly. You can also use blueberries, lemon, grapes, mango and pineapple.

    HI!

Can I cut the fruits the day before so I don't need to stress that day?
How do I keep the fruit from getting brown?

    Reply

    • Shadi HasanzadeNemati

Hi, you can, but I recommend not keeping them for more than a few hours. You can drizzle the fruit with lemon juice, sometimes this would delay the browning.

In the blog portion of this post you talk about adding lemon juice but in the actual recipe it doesn’t say anything about lemon juice...is there suppose to be lemon juice or just the slices? If so how much lemon juice?

    • Shadi HasanzadeNemati

Hi Katie, thank you for catching that. Just edited the recipe. You need to slice half of the lemon and juice the other half.
